Scott Walker songs covered by other artists

Robin's comment in the 'wanna-be's' thread gets me to wondering: what Scott songs (self-penned, not Brel covers he recorded) have been covered by other singers? - I wasn't aware that there are that many, I only know of Marc Almond's 'The Plague' (which I have not heard) - What songs did Nick Cave and Ultravox do?? Who else covered what?...

The Walkabouts did 'Man From Reno' on their 'Train Leaves at Eight' album from a couple of years back. It's actually as good as the original.

There are claims by searching Google that Bowie covered Nite Flights (Scott penned, but recorded by the Walker Bros), Neko Case covered Duchess and 'Big Louise' by Marc Almond, but I haven't heard any of these.
  • Nick Cave covered this one from Scott 1:
    The Big Hurt
    Written by: Wayne Shanklin
Officially released on: Soho, the Mojo soundtrack
Other artists' versions: Toni Fisher(1959), Scott Walker (1966)
    Comment: performed with Gallon Drunk.

Midge Ure recorded a version of "No Regrets" (Walker Brothers) as a solo project. Nothing to write home about IMO. I recall a Mojo magazine article a few years back that audaciously listed the "100 best Singers of all time". Of course, I had to see if and where my favorites figured in. Each entry containeded an accolade by some other famous persion as to why this singer was so great. Scott figured somewhere in the top 2/3, I believe, and it was Midge Ure who they enlisted to praise the man.

i have both of the almond covers, & big louise is good if you're a fan of his (it's simply voice & piano). his version of the plague, tho, seems like something from a chintz 70s broadway stage show. having said that, marc almond's one of my favorite musicians. 'the big hurt' i have an ancient recording of, a mid-sixties soul/rnb with a female vocalist whose name i can't remember.

it's sort of strange that more people haven't covered his songs. i've played a gay version of the girls in the street on accordion for a couple of years.

Big Louise is one of my favorite Marc covers - just beautiful. And I agree, The Plague is a bit chintz but sometimes I get in the mood for that whole gaudy Woman's Story e.p.

And Nite Flights is one of the few good tracks on Bowie's Black Tie, White Noise album IMHO...

Anyway here's some more from coversproject.com:

      - 30 Century Man covered by Catherine Wheel on the album Waydown.

      - The Angels of Ashes covered by Backworld on the album Holy Fire.

      - Farmer In The City covered by Martin Tielli on the album We didn't even suspect he was the poppy salesman.

      - Nite Flights covered by The Fatima Mansions on Lost in the Former West.

I don't know ANYthing about any of these, although I think I got a free Fatima Mansions CD sometime in the 90s at a club...
